I was told that at my age, I shouldn’t be talking about love.
We all shouldn’t be talking about love.
So, let’s not talk about love.
Let’s talk about playing with your best friend
Under the bright summer sky,
Until the sun kisses the horizon.
Your mom already calling you by your full name
and still, you want to stay still.
Let’s not talk about falling in love.
Let’s talk about meeting someone
In your new school
Where every face is a stranger and every smile you doubt.
Then you see this jolly person, or this shy type of guy – or gal
and snap, click, you get a friend that takes your pics.
Let’s not talk about the people you fell in love with.
Let’s talk about this group of crazy people,
you call them friends.
They laugh when you trip and fall,
Get mad when you tease them and name-call.
You actually, somehow, get bullied
but you know they won’t let you down
and with them you never feel lonely.
Let’s talk about your Mom and Dad
And how they wake up early in the morning,
Cook breakfast that you only eat half-way
Since you’re running late.
How they work all day to buy your books
They’re not even sure if you’re going to read them
But anyway
They do all these things not just because
But because they care.
Let’s not talk about love.
Let’s not talk about what you think is love.
Let’s not talk about the love that you keep on chasing
From people who are also looking for it from other people.
Let’s not talk about the love you keep on saying is meant to be
But it never is because you force it to be.
Instead, let’s talk about the love that you’re experiencing right now
The love you may not want, the love you take for granted
But the love that you definitely need.
This is the kind of love that will not leave you in sad tears
Or make you tear pages from your diaries.
This is the kind of love that you will forever keep.
Let’s talk about love.
Let’s talk about genuine, unconditional, unending love.
You feel it yet?
